Happy Birthday to:

Kobe Bryant -August 23,1978

Blake Lively -August 25, 1987

Rachel Bilson August 25, 1981

Gene Simmons- August 25, 1949

Shania Twain- August 28, 1965

This week is a big  birthday week for young Hollywood starlets. Gossip Girl star and New York scene staple, Blake Lively is turning 23, Rachel Bilson is 29, and True Blood’s sexy vampire Eric Alexander Skarsgard  turned 34 . While Skarsgard is in  Sweden, and Lively is busy filming, Bilson actually managed to spend some downtime on the beaches of Hawaii with her family.

In New York, a party of another sort will be getting started. This Sunday, American club Dj and producer extraordinaire Junior Vasquez will be throwing a birthday bash of his own. We know Sunday mornings don’t exactly spell party, unless you’re still up from Saturday’s night on the town, but this birthday is something not to be missed. Starting at 11 a.m. sharp at Love nightclub, “Junior’s Birthday Trip” will have the birthday boy himself at the turntable after Ruben Vega gets the party started. Expect the party to last well after the sun goes down.

The club birthday is a popular choice for New Yorkers and celebs alike. You don’t have to go far to find a club to celebrate your birthday or a friend’s. Here a few staple that are frequented by the rich, famous, and not-so-famous.

Greenhouse: Sure, getting through the door may be like getting into the Playboy mansion, but it’s definitely worth it.  Greenhouse, like the name says, is one of NYC’s first  green-engineered and built club. It’s got a futuristic meets hippie vibe in a comfy space and loads of great tunes.

Boom Boom Room: Anything on top of the Standard Hotel will not disappoint. Located in NYC’s premiere club destination, the Meatpacking District, Boom Boom attracts the likes of A-listers (Madonna, Justin Timberlake,  and Jude Law, to name a few). The décor is to die for – floor-to ceiling windows,  transparent floors, a huge bar and a hotub in the middle of it all.

Kenmare: The offspring of the kings of the clubscene, Paul Sevigny, Nur Khan and Joey Campanaro. Kenmare is part bar, part lounge with a Mediterranean menu. And although,  not technically a club, there’s plenty of late night partying going on.
And the list goes on, all you need to do is get out there and see for yourself.

Your Weekend Guide

Art Gone Too Far?
Taboo or not taboo, that is the question. Thursday evening, check it out for yourself. This art exhibition takes the bohemian memes of the south with Argentine conceptual artist’s De La Plata’s very own brand of modern art. Which features live nude in-your-face male and female figures in what DLP calls his Statue Garden. BTW, it’s been dubbed an “interactive” exhibit. So go for the controversy and stay for the post-exhibit cocktails at the cozy LES locale, CV lounge.

Thurs., Aug, 19, 11 p.m.-1 a.m.; CV Lounge 105 Rivington St. Manhattan, New York

Let’s Rock ‘n Roll All Night
Recently opened White Noise brings the Big Apple back to its gritty, DIY, punk rock roots with lots of Jack Daniels, vintage things, and enough leather to make Iggy Pop proud. Aptly located in the East Village, White Noise promises to be the new mecca for up and coming indie bands and second gen hipsters. There’s even a secret second floor space with its own so-called ‘Weirdo’ room. You’ll just have to see for yourself.

Now Freshly Opened; White Noise 225 Avenue B. at 13th St. New York, NY

Old Skool, Sans Cover
Need a break from the wallet-breaking nights Meatpacking? Doesn’t everyone? Try Soul Imperial on Friday with Sailor Jerry Rum girls at Legion. This Billyburg event may be a little trek, but it’s got no cover, and lots of great music. Think r&b, reggae and tons of Old Skook faves. The Jerry Rum girls aren’t a bad excuse either.

Fri., Aug, 20th, 11p.m.; Legion 790 Metropolitan, Williamburg, NY

High Art
Want some beer, wine, and cocktails? And a little art on the side? Gallery House and Green Edge Collaborative NYC are presenting a new exhibit called Reclaiming Space this Saturday. It showcases a variety of NYC artists using a multitude of mediums to explore the NYC artscene.

Sat. Aug., 21, 7:30 p.m.-12 a.m.; Gallery House 272 Clinton Ave. btw. Dekalb and Wiloughby, Prospect Heights, NY

Going In
Saturday at the Gates InList.com presents NYC Nightlife Saturdays with Dj Vikas. The Gates definitely lives up to its name. Tucked away from the main streets, by, well, gates, the place has the lavish feel of an old world European castle with the a jet-set clienteleand cool appeal that’s hard to dismiss.

Sat. Aug., 21 9 p.m.-3 a .m.; The Gates 290th 8th Ave New York, NY

Some people dread turning a year older but it doesn’t have to be that way. You can have a great time on any birthday celebration. New York City is the place to celebrate. There is always a party going on in NYC so pick a place fun on your birthday! Carnival is always on the top of the list when it comes to throwing an unforgettable birthday bash.  Celebrate your special night with your friends in this eclectic space-- get some drinks from the bar, play some board walk games, or dance the night away in the Funhouse.  Carnival NYC will make you forget your adult years and bring out the child in you! Anything can happen when there are games and drinks involved!

Another popular party destination is 300 New York.  With their amazing happy hour specials, this fancy bowling alley is the perfect spot to hang out and have a good time.  When you enter this alley, the atmosphere is comparable to that of a night club.  So, grab a drink and get your bowl on for your birthday!

A roof top is always a great choice for your birthday. Especially in the warmer months, check out Upstairs at the Kimberly Hotel.  Although just newly opened, it is already the upcoming hot spot of NYC.  A cross between Victorian and Gramercy feel, this rooftop bar will only prove to leave you feeling heightened, both literally and figuratively.  Come to the Upstairs for a drink in front of the Chrysler building.

49 Grove is another great lounge to host your birthday party. At this downtown location you will enjoy delicious cocktails and some of the best music in the city. You often feel like you’re at your own private event.

You can also check out Tonic East located in Murray Hill. This 3 floor upscale sports bar is perfect for all ages. You can check out the game, eat, and drink all at the fun venue. On the 3rd floor they have a magnificent roof top with views of the Empire State and Chrysler building, where you can dine and drink with friends.

Any of these choices are sure to make your birthday party a success and you will forget turning a year older.

Have a happy birthday and celebrate in style.
