Happy Birthday to:

Kobe Bryant -August 23,1978

Blake Lively -August 25, 1987

Rachel Bilson August 25, 1981

Gene Simmons- August 25, 1949

Shania Twain- August 28, 1965

This week is a big  birthday week for young Hollywood starlets. Gossip Girl star and New York scene staple, Blake Lively is turning 23, Rachel Bilson is 29, and True Blood’s sexy vampire Eric Alexander Skarsgard  turned 34 . While Skarsgard is in  Sweden, and Lively is busy filming, Bilson actually managed to spend some downtime on the beaches of Hawaii with her family.

In New York, a party of another sort will be getting started. This Sunday, American club Dj and producer extraordinaire Junior Vasquez will be throwing a birthday bash of his own. We know Sunday mornings don’t exactly spell party, unless you’re still up from Saturday’s night on the town, but this birthday is something not to be missed. Starting at 11 a.m. sharp at Love nightclub, “Junior’s Birthday Trip” will have the birthday boy himself at the turntable after Ruben Vega gets the party started. Expect the party to last well after the sun goes down.

The club birthday is a popular choice for New Yorkers and celebs alike. You don’t have to go far to find a club to celebrate your birthday or a friend’s. Here a few staple that are frequented by the rich, famous, and not-so-famous.

Greenhouse: Sure, getting through the door may be like getting into the Playboy mansion, but it’s definitely worth it.  Greenhouse, like the name says, is one of NYC’s first  green-engineered and built club. It’s got a futuristic meets hippie vibe in a comfy space and loads of great tunes.

Boom Boom Room: Anything on top of the Standard Hotel will not disappoint. Located in NYC’s premiere club destination, the Meatpacking District, Boom Boom attracts the likes of A-listers (Madonna, Justin Timberlake,  and Jude Law, to name a few). The décor is to die for – floor-to ceiling windows,  transparent floors, a huge bar and a hotub in the middle of it all.

Kenmare: The offspring of the kings of the clubscene, Paul Sevigny, Nur Khan and Joey Campanaro. Kenmare is part bar, part lounge with a Mediterranean menu. And although,  not technically a club, there’s plenty of late night partying going on.
And the list goes on, all you need to do is get out there and see for yourself.

New York Party Circuit

You don’t have to be a celebrity to throw a lavish party, especially if you have the great city of New York at your disposal.  A little cash in hand doesn’t hurt though. The New York party circuit is definitely alive and well. For some party ideas – be it birthday or just a ‘happyto-be-alive’ type fiesta,  simply take a few notes from these recent  NYC engagements:

Fashion Party

M Missoni decided to celebrate the heat (and fashion, of course) with a bash at The Standard’s freshly opened rooftop bar, Le Bain. Missoni’s famously retro prints were on display with guests donning  the chic, but sexy duds. Outside, guests had the option of take glamour shots with a beachy, ‘wind in hair’ theme. Or they could simply laze about on the pink water beds lining the rooftop. Inside, guests (including Byrdie Bell, Karen Duffy and Rachelle Hruska), feasted on mini lobster rolls and summery cocktails. Of course, they had a little bit of entertainment as well – Denmark’s Oh Land performed and Chelsea Leyland manned the turntables.

Party for the Birds

The giant leak in the Gulf may be plugged for now, however, the damage is still there. So, in honor of the oil soaked birds in the Gulf, jewelry designer Waris Ahluwalia (whose collections frequently feature birds and other avian-inspired designs) hosted a charity event. Aptly called “Party for the Pelicans,” this party for a cause at the Wooly had a number of items for auction including surfing lessons from Tom Sachs and some Ahluwalia jewelry among other things. Leelee Sobieski, Arden Wohl and Tom Sachs were all in attendence.

Peruvian Independence

Sure, America has the Fourth, but Peruvians have an Independence day too. And they celebrated in true Peruvian fashion with a party to remember at Hudson Terrace. The party, hosted by Red Hot Group, included live music, cupcakes, savory Pisco sours, and lots of sexy Peruvians.  Hudson, of course, is a rooftop bar with great views and a lux atmosphere with white leather couches and wall to wall windows.

 Going Mad

So Mad Men is ending its glorious run, but not without leaving its mark on TV history. And, naturally, Mad lovers are going to celebrate. One popular way is the infamous and ubiquitous pop-up party, a sort of party on the go. The most recent Mad fest was held at Painkillers Tiki Bar, which fittingly offers a retro '70s theme. Partygoers got their share of Mad Men all the while getting to hit the scene in good company.

So what’s the key to a great party? Music, food, and course, some lovely libations. A good crowd doesn’t hurt either.

Celeb Rehab: How to Party Like It’s Your Birthday and Not be Stuck Like Chuck (or La Lohan)

So we all know the signs of addiction: “I need another (insert party favor of choice here)”. The key to getting onto Dr. Drew is all about portioning. For example, head to the rave, but don’t get shoved into an ambulance, wondering if you’re an organ donor or not. Head to the bar, but let your wallet remind you that the power bill is due, and so is that cell bill you just handed out the number to.  In New York, the party’s easy to find, but for the real gems, you need to look a bit harder.

Birthday boys and girls, for a real celeb b-day treatment try these delightfully sinful spots:

You heard about LA’s Electric Daisy, for the NYC scaled-down, not so police-ridden version, there a number of New York venues. For example, at Circle Line, Pier 83, Pacha NYC is presenting a boat party with Dj extraordinaire himself, Boris to celebrate his new double-CD compilation. Which means a full day of partying.

Or, same day (July 10),  experience Marc Romboy at Sullivan Room. Romboy is, naturally German, and an underground wunderkind of the wax. Residents Sleepy and Boo will be there too.

Foundation: Newly opened, primed and ready to be the next white-hot “It” spot. Foundation has all the prereqs to fulfill the ubercool celebrity status. It also features a DJ booth with a kickin’ sound system, seven chandeliers, upholstered wrap-around seating, and great bottle service.

Ava Lounge: White, modern and hip, this midtown haunt is perched high above the Manhanttan skyline and lays claim to stunning views and comfy chairs. It’s a good place to lay down low while enjoying a cozy cocktail or two.

There are hundreds of other New York City party gems, that celebrities and New Yorkers alike frequent. As with all things in the Big Apple, the scene is always evolving, so head out and experience the hottest trends while they last.

The Summer Birthday Bunch
As of Monday, summer is officially here and with that comes heat. For birthday boys and girls in June who want to party celebrity-style in the Big Apple, look no further than here for NYC celebrity birthday guide.
In New York, all types of celebs gather to party, but they don’t all have the same tastes:

The Jetset Fashion-y, post-Project Runway types:
Remember when fashion was filled with high-power kings and queens like Versace, Gucci, and Chanel? These titans still reign, but new fashion’s got a different attitude. In New York, for the fashion forward birthday peeps can party any day of the week especially during high fashion season. In the summer, there’s fashion benefits galore along with show debuts. One standard celeb/model hangout is actually the Standard, which has the prequisite rooftop and then there’s always Chelsea where warehouse parties abounds.

Celeb Heavies Only
New York is the playground for the rich and famous, and the nightspots make sure to cater to the VIP. Which means hard-headed doorman, costly bottle service and, of course, uber-exclusivity. These hangouts are truly celeb playgrounds for heavyweights and the extremely lucky.

Tejune: Notable for turning away celebs like Entourage’s Kevin Connolly, but great for street cred.
Rose Bar: Lux pleasure dome with names to match:Olsen twins, Penelope Cruz, David Bechkham. They’ve got a killer drink menu too.
The Box: What more can you say… LES, speakeasy with a cool celeb crew mixing in with the hipster LES crowd.

The Lohans, debutantes and Socialites (pre-rehab)
The Eldridge: Everyone from Lydia Hearst to Padma Lakshmi comes to this eclectic hangout.
And then there’s classics like Beatrice, and Stanton Social always draws a crowd with its mix of bands and bar – who can complain?

Either way, whether you’re a true blood, from the Block New Yorker or transplant, Summer’s calling. Get in from the heat.

Celebrity Birthdays
Happy Birthday to:
Michael Cera – June 7, 1988
Kanye West – June 8, 1977
Johnny Depp – June 9, 1963
Natalie Portman – June 9, 1981
Elizabeth Hurley – June 10, 1965
Eva Longoria (Still) Throwing Hubby Birthday Parties
It’s no secret celebrities can party like there’s no tomorrow and party they will – especially if it’s a birthday. For celebrity power couples like Eva Longoria Parker and husbands and Spurs guard, Tony Parker, money is no object. Tony recently turned 28 and Eva threw him a birthday party to remember – several parties, actually.
The Desperate Housewives’ star’s birthday splurge started two weeks ago in Miami, took the party across the country in sunny LA, and finally ended in Vegas. The big event took place in Vegas’ Eve nightclub, a chic 8,000-square-foot owned by Eva herself.  Eva wore a ruffled, strapless beige number with greige patent pumps, and Tony went more causal, donning a white Tee and jeans.
Of course, Eva didn’t go cheap on the presents either. The birthday boy received four-wheelers and a touch screen computer among other lavish presents.
Birthday Splurge
So, you're not a celeb and you don't have wads of benjamins to hand out willy nilly from Manhattan to Mozambique. Luckily, it doesn't take loads of cash to splurge. And for denizens of mega-cities like New York, all it takes is a little out-of-the-box thinking.
For example, for New Yorkers, the perfect birthday can be as sumptuous as a night on the town with (The Don) Trump, or as low key chic as an at-home bash with a box full of sugary sweet cupcakes from Magnolia. Another alternative: try  birthday shots and a top-notch beer selection at the Stanton. For a nice feast, Pegu Club offers nothing but a sexy, Asian vibe with exotic drinks and stylish hors d’oeuvres. Or hit the spa circuit. With the help of  a little Google-fu, you can find deals at even the swankiest NYC spas like the Upper East Side's Completely Bare, or Equinox (where you can get killer workout too).
The key for a celeb-like birthday celebration – make everyday your birthday. Treat yourself. Even if it lasts a couple weeks. Who's gonna argue?

How Stars Spent their Memorial Day

Las Vegas had the usual suspects: Paris H. dj Steve Aoki, Ne-Yo, Stacy Keibler, and Sam Worthington at Encore Beach Club; the Palms hosted Jersey Shore’s own Pauly D., hockey pro Gordie Howe, actress Keshia Knight-Pulliam; Paul Oakenfold spun tunes at The Palms Pool along with Tara Reid, and Keri Hilson. However, in New York, it’s official: The recession’s over and…

The Hamptons  are Baaaack

Back on the East Coast, New York House Wife Kelly Bensimon made waves as she entered the Axe Lounge at Dune Southhampton, puppy in tow. The Real Housewife came in just as cops escorted a female brawl over Twilight’s Brian Greenberg. She was joined by Mariska Hartigay, Beth Ostrosky Stern, and Star Jones.

Meanwhile, other Housewives star, Countess LuAnn de Lesseps was maximizing her 15 along with Bravo Star Host Andy Cohen at the Miracle House’s 20th Anniversary Charity Gala also in the Hamptons. Even Housewife Bethenny Frankel decide to join, along with Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb and Tommy Hilfiger. During the Gala,  painted ceramic plates and paintings by Damien Hirst were auctioned off.

The Season’s Hottest A-List Gifts

Need some gift ideas? Let’s face it, getting that perfect birthday gift is never easy, especially, if you’re like any of us – get great ideas, forget, then by the time that special someone’s birthday actually rolls around, you’re stuck in that birthday limbo wishing you had written that birthday gift memo down. Memory never fails, does it? Not to worry, this season’s got plenty of birthday ideas, worthy of any celebrity (and loved one too).

Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend

Celebrities like a little bling-bling, so why not bedazzle it up and find that perfect piece of jewelry for the birthday boy or girl. Celebs like Jessica Biel love Searcy designed jewelry, which offers customized Birthstone Bars. The necklaces feature a silver bar customized with personal messages, and a dangling birthstone.

For the birthday guy, give the gift of time. A watch never goes out of style. Add a couple of diamonds, and your man is sure to swoon like he’s never swooned before. Jay-Z rocks an Audemar Piguet Royal Oak Offshore. Russian President/ karate enthusiast loves him some Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar (a cool $60,000). Italy’s Silvio Berlusconi may tops them all however. The former Prime Minister  wears a  $540,000 time piece by Vacheron Constantin.

Or, if you’re like us, get crafty, break out that bedazzler and make something personal. It’s the thought that counts, right?

Give the Gift that Keeps on Giving

Celebs love a cause. But, they don’t have to be the only ones with a generous spirit. Saving the world little by little is in. Start off easy. With shoes. TOMS shoes, inspired by Argentina, will give a pair of shoes to a child for each pair purchased. And, they’re stylish too.  Lindsay Lohan, and Tobey Maguire have  already latched onto TOMs.

Of course, being green is always trendy. Model and activist Josie Maran has created a line of non-toxic, earth-friendly makeup called, well, Josie Maran (you were thinking something else). For wine lovers, Jurassic Park dinosaur hunter Sam Neill has created the perfect grape. The actor has his own vineyard with fully certified organic grapes. Pet lovers like Ellen DeGeneres feeds her pups nothing but Halo foods, all natural (you can even eat it ).

J. Lo Gives G. Lo a Birthday Serenade
Actress-turned-singer and native New Yorker Jennifer Lopez recently gave fellow latino star George Lopez a birthday to remember. The comedian and late night show host just turned 49 and just for the occasion J. Lo came on his show for a birthday surprise. The mother of twins channeled her inner Marilyn Monroe – donning a wig and very sparkly sequinned floor-length gown that would even cause Marilyn herself to do a double take – for a sexy performance of “Happy Birthday to You”. The serenade was taped in black and white, giving the act an authentic 1960s-look.
J. Lo’s Back-up Hits NYC, LA, Europe
As for the diva herself, she is currently on the media circuit promoting her new movie, “The Back-up Plan”. The star is doing the Europe leg of the press tour including a jaunt in swanky Paris, France, and Madrid, Spain. She has her twins Emme and Max in tow and is making sure to dress to impress. A recent day in Paris found J. Lo in three high-fashion dresses in one day.
Birthday Bash
The Bronx-block, tour de force will celebrate her birthday in July. Last year, hubby Marc Anthony threw J. Lo a surprise 40th birthday party and brought out all the celebs to celebrate with. The “Evening with Lola” included mega-celebs like Liza Minnelli, Alicia Keys, Ricky Martin, Oprah-pal Gayle King, Benny Medina, Leah Remini and “Back-up” co-star Alex McKnight. The festivities took place at LA’s Edison Ballroom and featured a lavish dinner with plenty of champagne a’flowing. Keys’ boyfriend Swiss Beatz even performed a special rap just for the birthday girl.

New Moon Stars Get Cuddly in Tribeca
Birthday party or not, celebs in New York are celebrating just because they can. New Moon co-stars and uber secretive couple, Robert Pattinson and Kristen celebrated a night on the town Sunday in Tribeca’s Laconda Verde. The usually shy duo dropped the casual and showed they were definitely more than friends. Witnesses note the PDA was on full display at the Italian taverna.
Partying in NYC Takes A New Level: Say Hello to Axl Rose (Part Deux)
Fallen rock star and consummate bad boy wannabe Axl Rose has given a new name to the midlife crisis. Since arriving in NYC, the 48-year old Guns N’ Roses frontman has been hitting up the New York City party scene like it’s his 21st birthday. In the past three weeks, Axl has been spotted with the likes of Kevin Bacon, Scarlett Johansson (playing ping pong, no less), The Black Eyed Peas, and Mickey Rourke. His epic bender has seen him traverse the whole of Manhattan and back including such hotspots as Rose Bar, The Box, Greenhouse, the Goldbar in Soho, and the Meatpacking District’s SL.
The party-meister has also been working the New York music scene just as hard to promote his grand 15-year effort and remake Chinese Democracy.
Looks like La Lohan may have competition.

The Age of Aquarius
What do Charles Darwin, Mozart, George Clooney and Paris Hilton share in common? They all fall under the astrological sign of Aquarius. Aquarians, recognizable by the sign of the water bearer, rule the month of February.
Remember that quirky but cool professor you had in college who singlehandedly managed to leave you inspired as well as doubtful of his sanity? He would give incredible lectures on Sartre and then hand you back a graded, coffee-stained paper mired with cryptic remarks about voice and indentation marks. That dear reader is a typical Aquarian.
Aquarians are notorious for their eccentricity and intellectual feats. They are quick to argue for peace on earth and goodwill towards men while bending over backwards to be different.

Famous Aquarians
Other notable Aquarians include, Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Aniston, Jerry Springer, Justin Timberlake, Ayn Rand, Michael Jordan, Bob Marley, Boris Yeltsin, Eartha Kitt and Geena Davis among others.

What to Expect this Year
2010 will bring favorable financial and career growth for Aquarians. However, the pressures of work and family life may bring periods of stress and tension. Major decisions for Aquarians ought to be approached with extreme caution. It may be a controversial year that will lead to greater inner strength and personal growth.
